In 2023, I was on a rare childless lunch date with my best friend and, because we had time to have an actual, uninterrupted conversation, we started chatting about what was in our social media feeds at the time.
I told her, “I don’t know if you’ve seen these ads for somatic exercises in your feed? But honestly, it sounds like exactly what I need!”

Firstly, there is a physical release. Your body starts shaking, for me it was my legs first, but quickly it moved on to my arms, my shoulders and my head. It’s a freaky feeling, but also so good!
Along with the physical release came a breaking dam of emotions.
I don’t know if you know this, but in 2020 I had a miscarriage. It’s not something I think about often anymore. We have been blessed with 2 children since, and I am very grateful for them.
Well, obviously I was subconsciously still grieving this lost baby. Along with the shaking body parts came such strong feelings of grief about our loss that I just burst into tears.
I hadn’t cried since starting antidepressants in June of 2023, so this felt so, so good.
I cried and cried and cried until I had no more tears to cry, and then I smiled because I felt SO at peace!

Since that release, I have had others (the topics of which I won’t discuss on a public platform), but these exercises have truly been life-changing.
If I don’t do these exercises I have way less patience and I find myself emotional-eating so much more!
When I do these exercises consistently, I can really focus on eating only to fuel my body.
