What personal data we collect and why we collect it
Visiting our website
While you visit our website, we’ll track:
- Products you’ve viewed: we’ll use this to, for example, show you products you’ve recently viewed
- Location, IP address and browser type: we’ll use this for purposes like estimating taxes and shipping
- Shipping address: we’ll ask you to enter this so we can, for instance, estimate shipping before you place an order, and send you the order!

Signing up for the Dear Diary mailing list
When you sign up for our mailing list, whether it be to obtain a freebie (such as a free printable), or to stay in the loop (via a subscription form or at checkout) we will collect the following information:

When you have signed up for our mailing list, you may receive emails for the following purposes:
- goods or services purposes – providing our goods or services;

YITH WooCommerce Wishlist
While you visit our site, we’ll track:
- Products you’ve added to the wishlist: we’ll use this to show you and other users your favourite products, and to create targeted email campaigns.
- Wishlists you’ve created: we’ll keep track of the wishlists you create, and make them visible to the store staff
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Media
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
Cookies
If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

We may send advertisers a record of the total number of impressions and clicks for each ad, but no personal information (unless you specifically provide us with your consent to do so.)
If you click on an ad, we may send a referring URL to the advertiser’s website to identify that a customer is visiting from the website. We do not send personal information to advertisers with the referring URL. Once you are on the advertiser’s website however, the advertiser is able to collect your personal information.
Sharing of information
We may share your personal information with:
- our goods or services providers under contract who help provide certain goods or services or help with parts of our business operations
- an affiliate (affiliates will be required to honour this privacy policy);
- credit bureaus to report account information, as permitted by law;

We accept payments through Payfast and PayFlex. When processing payments, some of your data will be passed to these payment gateways, including information required to process or support the payment, such as the purchase total and billing information.
Other information shared with a payment provider to process payments includes:
- Name
- Address
- Phone
- City/State/Zip
- Unique payment identifier
- Payment provider identifier

Couriers
We share information with the courier companies who deliver products purchased from our website to you. We also make use of OhShip! to handle our shipments.

We may disclose personal information if required by law or to protect the safety of any individual or the general public.
Your information will not be sold
We will not sell personal information.
Marketing purposes
We may disclose general aggregate customer statistics (such as age or gender statistics) about the personal information to advertisers or business partners.
Change of ownership
If Dear Diary is sold, we may assign our rights to the personal information we process to a new owner. We will disclose the transfer on the website.
Security
Our hosting company hosts our website in a secure server environment that uses a firewall and other advanced security measures to prevent access from outside intruders. Our website has an approved SSL certificate.
How long we retain your data
We will only retain your personal information for as long as it is necessary to fulfil the purposes explicitly set out in this policy unless retention of the record is required or authorised by law or you have consented to the retention of the record.
Your personal information may be retained in physical or electronic records.
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profiles. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Updating or removing
