Which Dear Diary Planner Should I Buy?

If you want to buy a planner for 2022, you’re in the right place. Dear Diary has a planner for every need. But how do you know which one is the right one for you?

The best Dear Diary planner for you depends on how much detail you plan with. It also depends on where you will be using the planner. The Everything Planner has space for detailed planning, but it’s quite big. If you’re going to travel a lot with your planner, a Minimalist Planner may be better for you.

There are other factors to consider as well, such as if you want your planner to always lie open on your desk. If you plan on traveling a lot with your planner, this may also impact your decision. I have listed all the features of every type of planner in this post. I hope it helps to make your decision easier!

Is the Everything Planner for you?

If you love planning and want more than just a daily planning page in a planner, you will love the Everything Planner.

If you plan on travelling a lot with your planner, consider getting the A5 version; the A4 is rather bulky.

If you only want to keep your planner on your desk, the A4 is a good option because it stays open on the page you are on. If you want an A5 option that stays open, check out the wire-bound Everyday Planner instead.

The Minimalist Planner

The Minimalist Planner was born out of many requests for a slimmer planner and a simpler design.

This planner is thinner and lighter than the Everything Planner. That’s because it has way fewer pages. In total, the Minimalist Planner has 396 pages.

These are the features of the Minimalist Planner (it has NO other features from the Everything Planner)

  • A double-page monthly overview
  • A daily page.

The daily page design consists of:

  • A date at the top
  • A quote (or bible verse on Sundays) at the bottom
  • Lines across the page
  • There are also time slots on the left-hand side.

Is the Minimalist Planner for you?

If you are very specific with how you plan your days, the Minimalist Planner design allows you to plan exactly as you like it. You can customize the pages with headings, colours and stickers to your heart’s content.

If you want an A4 planner but travel a lot, the Minimalist Planner also offers a lighter option.

The Minimalist Planner is NOT a good option for you if you want all the added features from the Everything Planner.

The Wire-Bound Everyday Planner

The biggest difference between the Everyday Planner and the Everything Planner is the binding. Instead of the pages being sewn into a hard cover like in the Everything Planner, the Everyday Planner is wire-bound.

The Wire-Bound Everyday Planner is also only available in an A5 size.

The wire-bound planner is printed on 80gsm paper, with 400gsm covers that are laminated to last longer. Please note that a wire-bound planner is not as durable as a hardcover sewn in option. Please handle your planner with care to ensure that it lasts throughout the year.

The Everyday Planner also has a few features less than the Everything Planner because of sizing constraints of wire-binding. I’ve listed all the features that the wire-bound planner has below. But in a nutshell, the features hat it doesn’t have when compared to the Everything Planner, are:

A. A weekly lined page for notes and lists

B. Extra pages at the end of the planner

Features that the Everyday Planner does have are:

Year Features:

  • A double-page month-at-a-glance
  • Birthday page
  • A page for 2022 goals
  • A page for 2022 travel dreams
  • A page for your daily routine
  • A menstrual cycle tracker
  • 2 habit tracker pages
  • A car maintenance page
  • A three-year calendar page

Monthly features:

  • A themed cover page
  • A double-page month overview
  • A budget page
  • A hopes, goals & dreams page
  • An end-of-month reflection page

Weekly features:

  • A week planner / meal planner page

Daily features:

  • The day and date
  • A quote (or bible verse on a Sunday)
  • A space for gratitude journaling
  • A space for lists and notes
  • A half-hour slot schedule
  • A water tracker
  • An exercise planner

Is the Wire-Bound Everyday Planner for you?

If it’s more important to you that your A5 planner stays open flat on your desk than to have all the features of the Everything Planner, the Wire-Bound option is for you. The pretty covers don’t hurt either!

If you plan to travel with your planner a lot, make sure that you always store it safely. Wire-bound planners are not as durable as hardcover sewn in planners. If your planner will only stay on your desk, this is no problem.

The Teacher Planner

The Teacher Planner, as the name suggests, was designed specifically for teachers.

It comes in A4 size. The 7 Lesson Teacher Planner has about 400 pages while the 14 Lesson Teacher Planner has about 450 pages.

Features of the Teacher Planner:

  • A personal details page
  • A three-year overview
  • The year at a glance (double page)
  • A goals for 2022 page
  • A page for birthdays
  • 10 notes and lists pages (blank – great for sticking in loose papers supplied by your school, like your timetable, exam timetables, term planners etc.)
  • 3 financial expenses record pages
  • A monthly overview (double page)
  • A weekly lesson planner (the 7 Lesson Teacher planner has 7 lessons per day per page, the 14 Lesson Teacher Planner has 14 lessons over a double page)
  • Daily planning – two days per page, lined and dated
  • 20 double-page class lists – for 30 learners
  • 12 pages of attendance register (e.g. 3 pages per term) – for 30 learners
  • 8 pages of learner details (space for 39 learners)
  • 5 pages for parent correspondence
  • 7 pages of meeting minutes
  • 20 extra lined pages for whatever you need

Why are there two Teacher Planner options?

The two different Teacher Planner options are based on how many lessons you have in a day. If you have 7 or less lessons in a day, the 7 Lesson Teacher Planner will be sufficient for you. But if you have more than 7 (and up to 14) lessons per day, then you’ll need the 14 Lesson Teacher Planner. The 14 Lesson Planner has about 50 pages more than the 7 Lesson Planner.

Dimensions:

7 lesson A4: 21.5 x 15.5 x 3 cm (approximately)

14 lesson A4: 30.5 x 21.5 x 3.5 cm (approximately)

Cost:

7 Lesson Teacher Planner: R530

14 Lesson Teacher Planner: R550

Is the Teacher Planner for me?

If you are a Teacher and mainly use your planner for school, then the Teacher Planner is for you.

If you still want options such as a weekly planner / meal planner, the Everything Planner may be a better choice.

The Digital Everything Planner

The Digital Everything Planner is a PDF version of the printed Everything Planner. It’s the exact file that I send to my printer to print the Everything Planner. So it includes the all 558 pages of the Everything Planner.

Note that the Teacher Planner will also be available as a digital planner for R150.

Why should I buy a digital planner?

The digital version has a number of benefits, including the following:

It allows paperless planning

You can edit your Digital Everything Planner on your phone or tablet using the Adobe Acrobat app (you might have to pay for it if you don’t have the Adobe suite). If you have a stylus you can write directly, or you can type onto the page. You can then save the changes and have your planning saved to the PDF.

Please note: the bigger your screen, the better this works

It’s environmentally friendly

Less paper being used is better for the environment. You also eliminate the need for shipping, which has environmental benefits.

You can print the digital PDF. This means you can choose the pages you want, leave out the ones you don’t need, and print and bind your own planner.

Please note: printing a single planner at a printing company is often much more expensive than printing in bulk. Please keep this in mind if you decide to have your own planner printed.

Is a Digital Planner for me?

If you are tech savvy and like working paperless, the digital planner is perfect for you. Especially if you have a tablet!

If you prefer pen and paper, rather go for a printed copy.
